While it’s been a bit bumpy at times, April has for the most part lived up to historical precedence, in that the broader indices are on track to end the month nicely higher. In fact, even with the recent dips, the S&P 500 and Dow are up 3.2% and 5.2%, respectively, in April so far. Part of the recent strength can certainly be attributed to the strong start to the first-quarter earnings announcement season. Approximately 25% of S&P 500 companies have announced results so far, and 84% of these companies have exceeded analysts’ earnings estimates. FactSet reported that the current first-quarter earnings growth rate stands at a stunning 33.8%. Our own Accelerated Profits stocks have also been posting wave-after-wave of positive earnings: We’ve had five Buy List companies announce results, and all five have topped analysts’ earnings estimates by an average 57%. We have 16 more companies scheduled to release results this week, and I’m expecting even more stunning results.
