Platinum Growth Club Flash Alert: The Market Ends the Quarter in Negative Territory

Image
Listen to the Special Market Podcast for an update on the latest market gyrations. Flash Alert Mar 31, 2020 Dear Savio, The stock market kicked off today on a more positive note. But we ended the day and the quarter back in negative territory. In fact, the first quarter was the Dow’s worst quarter since 1987. The late-afternoon selling was clearly disappointing. However, I was pleased to see that volatility is weakening. Now, we need to see selling volume dry up, too.  The reality is the market oscillations will likely continue until this nationwide “self-quarantine” is over. Until then, I don’t recommend buying growth stocks. So, I am holding off on sounding the “all-clear signal” for growth stocks until at least the second or third week of April. To further discuss today’s gyrations, including the economic data and the stocks I’m watching right now, I’ve recorded a Special Market Podcast. You can listen b

The altcoins in our portfolio have pulled back, but they are holding up quite well. I tell you all about that in the new issue. Brought to you by INVESTORPLACE Monthly Issue Mar 31, 2020 Matt McCall Dear Savio, Our Ultimate Crypto portfolio got off to a fantastic start after it was launched on January 7. But in the last month or so, our coins have pulled back as the coronavirus pandemic has hit virtually all investments. Still, cryptocurrencies remain an important asset class that should be a part of every investor’s balanced portfolio – now more than ever. The potential for massive gains is the main reason, but cryptos also provide great diversification, which we talk about in the new Ultimate Crypto Monthly Issue . The altc

Neil's Journal: Working Through the Lockdowns

Neil George's Profitable Investing March 31, 2020 Negative COVID-19 news continues to grip the media and the markets, with nearly everything else taking a backseat. But what is rarely mentioned is the growing number of folks that are confirmed recovered. Confirmed Recovered (COVID-19)—Source: Johns Hopkins, WHO & Bloomberg As of today, there are 172,000 confirmed recovered. That is a big number, and you can see from the chart above that it has been accelerating. China is working through its bout with the virus and is also recovering well. I had an encouraging conversation with one of my long-time friends in Shanghai who told me that he was in a meeting of business leaders held by a large accounting firm—no masks. And as the leaders were polled, none had known of anyone that had been infected with COVID-19. Every one of them has their businesses fully up and running, including factories. Adding to

A Simple Road Map to Maximize Gains

Image
Dear Reader, Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the market has taken a beating in March, and we are closing in on the worst month since 2008. But both the economy and stocks will recover from the coronavirus — and I want to explain why. There are several positive signs for consumers, such as lower oil prices. Add in historically low interest rates and you have the strong likelihood that businesses and consumers will spend. Underlining these positives is an unprecedented stimulus package on the way that will help kickstart the economy when the time is right and the coronavirus is brought under control. To that

UPDATED Strategic Trader Alert: Is a V-Reversal Likely?

The last week has been good for stocks. ALERT Mar 31, 2020   Editor's Note: An earlier version of this alert listed $1.25 as the maximum entry price for the NKE April 17th $90 Covered Call. Readers should instead enter the NKE April 17th $90 Covered Call for a minimum price of $1.25. The alert below has been adjusted to reflect this correction. Is a V-Reversal Likely? Dear Savio, The last week has been good for stocks. In fact, last week's gains were the best in percentage terms over the last 11 years, but does that mean the market's reversal will continue to look like a V? A great example of a V-reversal was the bear market at the

The last week has been good for stocks. ALERT Mar 31, 2020   Is a V-Reversal Likely? Dear Savio, The last week has been good for stocks. In fact, last week's gains were the best in percentage terms over the last 11 years, but does that mean the market's reversal will continue to look like a V? A great example of a V-reversal was the bear market at the end of 2018, when traders oversold a market that still had solid fundamentals. The current situation is a lot softer since we can't expect consumer behavior to revert to normal in the short term. In our view, a W-shaped reversal or a longer consolidation like we saw in 2010 and 2011 is much more likely. If we

I called the bottom in 2009, and today…

Dear Reader, In March 2009, I was working in Manhattan at my investment advisory firm and writing newsletters. At the time, I was also a regular guest on Fox Business prior to signing a contract with the network. You would think all things in my work life were good. I was busy doing what I love and had multiple streams of income. However, everything that I did – including in my free time – revolved around the stock market. Heading into that month, the S&P 500 had lost over half its value, and there appeared to be no end in sight. Nearly everyone
